Technical advances in instrumentation, sample processing, biological assays, and bioinformatics techniques have enabled generation of large amount of biological data. These data represent measurements of features of complex biological systems and processes. Presentation of data and extraction of knowledge and information pose challenges for biologists trying to interpret large amounts of complex hierarchical data.
Visualization tools have been employed for displaying various types of data, such as flow cytometry, Luminex, sequence data, genotyping, gene expression data, and protein 3D structures, but the presentation of complex multi-level data is at early stages of development. Here we develop visualization tools that are useful for presentation and summarization of complex data. These visualization tools support scientific discovery by providing means to easily understand and get deep and broad insight into large data sets.
